Considering a Rewarding Career in Gastroenterology?

The New Zealand Society of Gastroenterology (NZSG) warmly invites basic trainees to apply for the Advanced Gastroenterology Training Programme, an exciting and fulfilling career pathway within internal medicine.

If you are a basic trainee preparing to sit your RACP entrance examination in June, we encourage you to consider gastroenterology as your specialty of choice. This nationally coordinated three‑year training programme offers comprehensive clinical exposure and the opportunity to train across a range of centres throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.

Gastroenterology is a diverse, intellectually stimulating specialty that combines procedural skills, longitudinal patient care, and strong multidisciplinary teamwork. Trainees benefit from close mentorship, varied clinical experiences, and the chance to make a meaningful difference to patient outcomes across the motu.

How to Apply

Applicants are invited to submit a completed CV using the NZSG CV template, 2024_CV Template_MATCH.docxoffice@nzsg.org.nz including the contact details for three referees. Completed CVs should be emailed to office@nzsg.org.nz An administration fee of $450 applies and will be invoiced upon receipt of a complete application.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview in late June in Wellington, Short List outcomes advised in late May. Please note that successful completion of the RACP clinical examination is required to enter advanced training.

Not Quite Ready for Advanced Training?

If you are a basic trainee who is still exploring specialty options but interested in gastroenterology, we encourage you to:

  • Undertake a general medicine or gastroenterology rotation

  • Speak with a gastroenterology SMO or current trainee

  • Contact NZSG for an introduction to clinicians within the gastroenterology community

Are you Returning Trainees for years two and three

If you are a current advanced trainee, please send your completed CV using the template 2024_CV Template_MATCH.docx to office@nzsg.org.nz . Please ensure you include the names and contact details (phone if known and email) for three referees as noted within the template.

There is an administration fee of $150 which NZSG will invoice you upon receipt of your complete application information along with further documentation to complete and return prior your interview.

Interviews will be via videoconference in late June.
