Gastroenterology Interest Group (GIG) UoA Careers Evening

On Tuesday 25 August the Gastroenterology Interest Group UoA held Careers Evening attended by approximately 50 students interested in the profession.

Students heard from several NZSG members on their professional journey and the current opportunities in the field of gastroenterology. Dr Catherine Correia, the NZSG Trainee Representative, who is in her last year as a registrar was joined by Dr Kirsty MacFarlane an SMO in Northland Hospital and Dr Paul Casey of Middlemore Hospital. Each presenter shared their story and answered questions from the students.

Dr MacFarlane also discussed inequitable health outcomes for Māori and Pacific patients within Gastroenterology and challenges relating to providing a health service in rural locations. throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
