Research Invitation: Feasibility Study for a New Functional Dyspepsia Wellbeing App

Posted Friday May 8, 2026

A team of researchers at the University of Auckland and Alimetry Ltd have recently co-designed a novel wellbeing app in collaboration with people living with functional dyspepsia. While psychological interventions are often recommended to help regulate the gut-brain connection, access remains a significant barrier for many patients. To bridge this gap, we have developed a targeted digital wellbeing tool based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, tailored specifically to the lived experiences of those with functional dyspepsia.

This study aims to evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of this digital delivery method. We are also evaluating its potential to improve gastric symptoms, mental health outcomes, and overall quality of life compared with therapist-led Zoom sessions and a waiting-list control.

We are currently recruiting patients with functional dyspepsia who can complete an in-person baseline body-surface gastric mapping test in Auckland and have access to an internet-compatible device. We invite clinicians or researchers to share this study with patients who may benefit from a psychologically integrated approach to symptom management.
