GIG - The Gastro Interest Group at UoA
Our NZSG Trainee Representatives in 2025; Dr Andrew Thushyanthan and Dr Catherine Corriea were instrumental in setting up an Interest Group for medical students interested in gastroenterology at the University of Auckland.
GIG for short started in early 2025 with an initial 'get to know us' meeting which saw a large number of students attend with several NZSG members in attendance. GIG has held several events in 2025 sponsored by NZSG including:
A Careers Day which saw over 50 students come together to hear from NZSG members: Hannah Giles, Henry Wei, Adele Melton and Andrew Thushyanthan
Stomach Cancer Awareness Fundraiser which raised $321 donated to NZ Gut Cancer Foundation.
We also welcomed two members to ASM 2025 Dr Lydia Ma and Dr Aurora Kilfoyle.
NZSG hopes to see GIG grow and looks forward to seeing their applications for MATCH in the years ahead.
