News from RACP

Posted Monday December 8, 2025

You may be aware that the College Education Committee is undertaking an initiative to strengthen the quality assurance and improvement of selection into RACP Basic and Advanced Training programs. This work is in response to increasing interest from stakeholders, regulators, and governments in how selection processes function and influence the physician workforce.

Our goal is to develop an evidence- and stakeholder-informed strategy that:

·       Reduces the burden of selection activities,

·       Supports workforce growth aligned with community health needs, and

·       Ensures transparent, fair, and robust selection practices.

The work is being conducted in three phases over 2025 and 2026, as described in the image below:

The Discovery and Evaluation Phases of this initiative are now complete. You can read more about the methodology and findings in the attached communique and on the RACP website.

Work from these first two phases now provides a foundation for the Response Phase. We’ll work with a range of stakeholders to build a strategy to address these seven recommendations made in the Evaluation Phase:

  1. Develop a Selection Quality Framework

  2. Establish a Selection Data and Insights program

  3. Clarify governance and roles

  4. Leverage accreditation for quality assurance

  5. Collaborate to harmonise recruitment timing and processes

  6. Advance equity and inclusion

  7. Implement operational improvements

We’ll be in touch in early 2026 with more details about how we’ll undertake the Response Phase and how you can be involved.

If you’d like more information, you can get in touch with the team via evaluation@racp.edu.au
