Say hello to the new elected members of the NZSG Executive Committee

Dr Nicholas Anticich

Nick is a Gastroenterologist, Endoscopist, and General Physician in the Nelson Marlborough ​region since 2013. His qualifications include MBCHb (Otago) 2000, FRACP (2009)​

As an Executive member Nick would like to give back to the community that supported him through his training.​ He also wants to ensure smaller hospitals in Aotearoa New Zealand are represented.​

Dr Cameron Schauer

Cameron is a Gastroenterologist, Interventional Endoscopist, General Physician, and Honorary Senior Lecturer practising in the Auckland Region. He lectures at the University of Auckland where he is also a PhD candidate.

Cameron was the first New Zealander to be awarded a fellowship role in Tokyo, Japan​ and is a current member of the Asian-Pacific Society for Digestive Endoscopy and FRACP, Adult Medicine Division​.

As an Executive member Cameron would like to work toward building a strong future for the Society with his fellow Executives focusing on building a national collaboration on gastroenterology issues including protocols, procedures, referrals and research.

Dr Safina Gadeock

Safina is a Research Fellow at the Department of Immunology & Microbiology, University of Otago in Dunedin​. Safina is a Principal Member of the Gut Health Network and Live Human Tissue Models Network. She received ​HRC Emerging Researcher 2024 and US Crohn’s& Colitis Emerging Researcher 2021. and leads a research study investigating improvements to anti-TNF efficacy in IBD. She is a member of international and national IBD research and clinical societies; International research and industry collaborations.

As an Executive member Safina's focus will include introducing a Research Session to the NZSG ASM meeting to bridge the bed-benchside gap, introducing a webpage for “Projects and Innovative Research Tools in NZ” on the NZSG website to encourage a collaborative NZ community of gastro researchers and clinicians’ and investigate holding a semi-annual NZ-IBD Research Meeting (virtual or in person): updates and collaborations. Safina would also like to       build the gastro research workforce community with a focus on students and ECRs, work to become inclusive of Māori and Pasifika views on improving patient health outcomes and showcase Research Groups and their Achievements in the NZSG newsletter.
