The Canterbury District Health Board is the largest tertiary, teaching and research hospital in the South Island of New Zealand. The hospital operates 600-650 beds and provides services to over 35,000 inpatients each year.

Applications for the above position are invited from Registered Medical Practitioners who hold an approved higher qualification in Medicine, enabling Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. This is a permanent full-time position within the CDHB reporting to the Clinical Director of the Department of Gastroenterology.

The Gastroenterology Department provides secondary and tertiary level inpatient, outpatient, consultation service and the successful applicant will be required to participate in the on call roster. Specific training and competence in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy is essential. The position also entails provision of clinical training and supervision of medical staff, students and other staff as required and participation in Departmental research and audit activities.

You’ll experience supportive working relationships within the hospital as well as enjoy the unique collegial relationships that stem from providing a comprehensive service to locations throughout the South Island including Timaru, Ashburton and the West Coast.

We are open to applications from newly qualified through to experienced Physicians. Remuneration will be based on the equivalent cumulative experience of the applicant and matched to the appropriate step within the Medical and Dental Specialists Multi Employment Collective Agreement (MECA).

Hawke’s Bay Hospital situated on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand are adding another General Physician / Gastroenterologist to their team – could it be you?

Serving a local population of 150,000 you will be presented with a wide variety of cases to make sure that this is a challenging yet rewarding role. Working with 19 other specialist physicians you will be part of a team providing a high level of care across many subspecialties, while also working on the 1:12 General Medical acute roster. In this role you will be well supported with a medical registrar and a house officer as part of your consultant led team backed up by on-site Emergency Physicians and Intensive Care Specialists.

Within the Gastroenterology subspecialty you will work alongside one other Gastroenterologist, who is well supported by our 5 General Surgeons and 5 Surgical Registrars.

This is a great opportunity for someone to come and make their mark through professional development of this service at Hawke’s Bay. The team are very open to ideas and suggestions to help develop this service further. Opportunities and support networks exist for ongoing research as well.

Hawke’s Bay Hospital is one of the larger hospitals in NZ at 400 beds, boasting a 40-Slice CT Scanner and 16-Channel MRI as an example to the diagnostic tools available.

This is a fulltime permanent appointment but expressions of interest in short or fixed term employment are also welcome.

GASTROENTEROLOGIST/GENERAL PHYSICIAN, GENERAL MEDICINE, BAY OF PLENTY DISTRICT HEALTH BOARD

We seek to recruit a suitably qualified gastroenterologist to the Bay of Plenty District Health Board. The role involves providing gastroenterology services to both inpatients and outpatients. You will also be part of the team of physicians to provide acute general inpatient services. As a gastroenterologist you will be working with three other colleagues to provide a range of endoscopic procedures and care.

Tauranga Hospital is a busy general hospital with 326 beds.  The Department of Medicine in Tauranga has a complement of 19 physicians covering areas of specialist health services for the older person, infectious diseases, HIV, hepatitis, diabetes, endo crinology, rheumatology, renal, respiratory, oncology, gastroenterology, neurology and cardiology. Whakatane Hospital is about 95 km from Tauranga and has 110 beds. The medical services is provided by four physicians.

Bay of Plenty has a total population of 200,000. Tauranga Hospital is New Zealand's largest provincial hospital in a city of 100,000. Tauranga is a beach / harbourside city in a beautiful part of the North Island of New Zealand offering an excellent lifestyle.
