Locum Gastroenterologist

Locum Gastroenterologist required on a Casual Basis several times per year.  The position is at Suite 7, Marinoto Clinic  which is part of a modern 22 Suite Facility situated on Maori Hill, Dunedin. Canterbury District Health Board is currently seeking a permanent, full-time Gastroenterologist to join our department within Christchurch Hospital. The Canterbury District Health Board is the largest tertiary, teaching and research hospital in the South Island of New Zealand, the hospital operates 600-650 beds and provides services to over 35,000 inpatients each year. Within the CDHB our Gastroenterology Department provides secondary and tertiary level inpatient, outpatient consultation service.

Specific training and competence in ERCP is desirable, however it is essential in diagnostic and therapeutic GI endoscopy. The position also entails provision of clinical training and supervision of medical staff, students and other staff as required and participation in Departmental research and audit activities - you will also be required to participate in the on-call roster.

You’ll experience supportive working relationships within the hospital as well as enjoy the unique collegial relationships that stem from providing a comprehensive service to locations throughout the South Island including Timaru, Ashburton and the West Coast.

We are open to applications from newly qualified through to experienced physicians. Remuneration will be based on the equivalent cumulative experience of the applicant and matched to the appropriate step within the Medical and Dental Specialists Multi Employment Collective Agreement (MECA). Consultant General Physician, Gastroenterology sub-speciality

Taranaki Base Hospital, New Plymouth  Part time or Full Time

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Physician with a Gastroenterology sub-specialty interest.  You will manage luminal gastroenterology and hepatology inpatients and outpatients, and be expected to perform gastroscopy colonoscopy lists.  The service is supported by both hepatology and inflammatory bowel disease nurse specialists.

The successful applicant will join a department of nine other Consultant Physicians who have sub-specialty interests in Cardiology (2), Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Renal (2), Respiratory (2) and Rheumatology.  The successful candidate will take part in a 1:9 general medicine on-call rota with Registrar and House Surgeon support. The Department of Medicine has a strong track record with education and training, and the successful incumbents will be expected to participate and contribute to the department’s CME activities, including basic & advanced trainee registrar teaching, audit and medical student teaching. Salary will be in accordance with the current national collective agreement.  A comprehensive relocation package would be available to the successful permanent appointees. We are keen to consider candidates that are currently in training posts seeking employment within twelve months or from suitable candidates who may wish to work in a short term capacity for six months or longer.  You must have specialist qualifications registerable in New Zealand.

Taranaki Base Hospital, situated in New Plymouth, is a progressive regional secondary referral centre for the province of Taranaki with a wide range of medical specialties, an Intensivist led ICU and an HDU and CCU.  There is also a well equipped Radiology Department providing interventional radiology and gastroenterology related support including digital radiology, PTC, CT guided biopsy, MRI, CT and angiography.  Taranaki Base hospital has a new endoscopy suite with two purpose built endoscopy theatres. An angiography/ERCP suite with anaesthetic capability. Endoscopy duties will be shared with the current gastroenterologist and six general surgeons. There is an excellent Laboratory Service and the IT service is among the best in the country.

Taranaki is situated on the west coast of the lower North Island of New Zealand with a population of approximately 105,000.  It is an area with outstanding scenery and a strong economic record.  It is an excellent and affordable place to live and raise a family, with first class educational facilities.  The mountain to surf environment encourages outdoor living and recreational activities which are all available within minutes of New Plymouth, the provincial capital.

Specialist Gastroenterologist

Applications are invited for a permanent full time Specialist Gastroenterologist. This position becomes available in February 2018, but an earlier starting date can be negotiable. The successful appointee will have a broad range of Gastroenterology experience and training.

Consultant  Gastroenterologist

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Gastroenterologist position within a progressive department that is affiliated with the University of Otago. The Gastroenterology Service welcomes applications for the position with an expected start date of April 2017. The hours of work and length of employment are flexible and will be negotiated with the successful applicant. This role is based in Dunedin, however consideration would be given to a candidate who wishes to be based in Invercargill, though this would certainly involve travel to Dunedin.
With some of New Zealand’s most famous scenery and holiday spots on our doorstep (Queenstown, Wanaka, Milford Sound, Stewart Island, to name but a few), our region offers affordable living, great schools, a relaxed way of life with no traffic jams in sight.
Southern DHB offers a comprehensive range of Gastroenterology services in both of its main hospitals, located in Dunedin and Invercargill, as well as outpatient clinics in other areas of the district. Dunedin is a vibrant University town and a great place to live and work. Dunedin Hospital has 350 beds and provides care for a population of approximately 180,000. Southland Hospital, in Invercargill has 180 beds and provides care for a population of approximately 100,000.  Invercargill is situated at the base of the South Island and the people are renowned for their warmth and hospitality, there is space in abundance and you are surrounded by national parks.  The two main hospitals in Southern DHB provide care for the population of the whole of the lower South Island.  In this role you will participate in a 1:4 on-call roster and provide a full range of Gastroenterology services, alongside an enthusiastic group of colleagues.  Planning is currently underway to re-develop facilities and expand the department, so there will be opportunities to contribute to this development. There are also unlimited possibilities for laboratory and clinical based research and there is plenty of scope for collaboration with like-minded researchers. To be successful in this role you’ll need to have enthusiasm for teaching and be a team player with a commitment to improving and developing service delivery quality.
Southern DHB has all major specialties, including interventional radiology, tertiary level care in neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery and the region is well served by an excellent helicopter retrieval service.
Appointed specialists will possess FRACP or an equivalent qualification. Trainees within a few months of completing FRACP training are welcome to express an interest. ERCP experience is desirable, but not essential.
